Types and Grades of Wood
- Most types of wood ( oak, maple, cherry, ash, walnut, etc.) come in
4 grades:
Clear - Free of defects, though it may contain minor
imperfections,
Select & Better - Almost clear, but has more natural
characteristics such as knots & color variations, #1 Common - A
multi-colored appearance, light and dark tones, knots, flags and worm
holes, and
#2 Common - Rustic in appearance and allows all wood
characteristics to show through.
- Most of the installations that we perform, we use Select & Better
since it gives the client the best value for their money. However,
some installations (like cherry) require only clear grade for the
ultimate appearance and beauty. #1 and #2 Common are used only
upon customer request.
- Hardwood planks come in 3/4" X 2 1/4" (standard size) X 3 1/4", 4"
and 5"
- We also install pre-finished hardwood floors which came in various
height and width but such floors should be installed on perfectly level
floors (ex. new construction). Please note: Boyd's Floors does not
install laminate flooring (Pergo), tile, etc.
